Once there was a young woman named Maria. She lived in a small village down by the river. She loved poetry, romantic novels and beautiful flowers. She dreamed of a beautiful life with a wonderful man. But her father would refuse to let her go out to look for one. Many years passed this way until

She began to sneak out to meet this man, whom she fell in love with. This went on for a few months until she told her father that she wanted to marry the love of her life. Her father became angry but reluctantly accepted.

So she married the man and a few years later had two children. One was a girl, whom she proudly named Maria. The other child was a boy named Mario, named after his father.
Mario, her husband, worked long hours down by the cemetery. He was usually gone all day and all night, so she felt very lonely.

One ill-fated evening she decided to walk to the local store to buy milk for the childrento her great horror she saw her husband with another woman. He was holding her hand and kissing her gently on her lips. Anger overcame her and her heart filled with rage! She ran home crying with tears streaming down her cheeks. Blinded by her terrible anger and madness she blamed her young children for her husbands infidelity. So later that evening, she took her children, down to the river to drown them. When she realized what she had done, she went after her children, but she did not know how to swim. She flailed her arms vigorously in vain. As she gasped for one last breath, she cursed her husband for his misdeeds and vowed to return. She slowly drowned along with her children.

From that day on, at midnight, a woman with a white dress appeared in the small village searching for her lost children wailing "¿donde estan mis hijos?" Everyone in the small village got scared and eventually moved away.

She now roams all across Mexico, Central and South America looking to snatch up little children. No child should ever be alone at night because "La Llorona" is searching for her next victim, wailing those four dreadful words ""¿donde estan mis hijos?"
